Position Sensitive Silicon Photomultiplier
Description:
Conventional silicon photomultipliers (SiPM) is a silicon-based weak photodetector composed of avalanche photodiode arrays operating above avalanche breakdown voltage and with avalanche quenching mechanism in parallel. It has excellent photon number resolution and single photon detection sensitivity. It has very important and extensive applications in particle physics and nuclear physics research, nuclear medicine diagnosis and treatment, lidar, fluorescence detection and other fields.
Compared to traditional SiPMs, our SiPMs use an intrinsic epitaxial layer as a quenching resistor and a continuous silicon capping layer as an anode to connect all APD cells. Therefore, the device has a more compact structure and simpler manufacturing technology, allowing for greater microcell density (greater dynamic range), while having sufficient PDE. In addition, our SIPMs facilitate the realization of two-dimensional (2D) position-sensitive (PS) SiPMs, which have the attractive advantages of fewer output electrodes, simple readout electronics, and high position resolution.
